3010 is a “Slow Set Aromatic Polyurea” designed for use in interior Control Joints and minor concrete repair. 3010 is a 5 to 8 minute quick set, flexible 1:1 by volume polyurea system. This two part polyurea is 100% solids and designed to be self- leveling, “hand mixed” or machine dispensed. 3010 is used for rapid installations in control joints and other concrete structures where short down-time is important and the environmental temperatures limit the use of other polymer products. The product can be driven over in approximately 20-30 minutes after installation.
Cold Temperature Applications: 3010 may be used in cold temperature applications below zero °F . Set times do slow some in cool temperatures but flexibility is maintained. 3010 exhibits excellent resistance to moisture, chemicals and abrasive conditions. 3010 is used for installation areas that require a fast set, high strength flexible joint filler that provides “load transfer” across a standard saw cut control joint.
Moisture Vapor Reduction: The product is compatible with CMW 8100 used in joints to reduce moisture vapor pressure on joint products.
Cold Applications: When using this product in below zero applications, keep the product and equipment warm, warm the product to 80°F TO 90°F before using
Preparation:
Concrete must have a minimum 28 day cure prior to
application. Use a dry diamond saw, saw/abrade both sides of the joint walls. Assure that the joint is properly abraded and cleaned to full depth, approximately 1.25 inches as a standard depth of fill. Remove any curing agent, form release materials, oils, wax, moisture or any material that may affect bonding. Clean, vacuum and wash to remove dust from the walls of the joint.
Wash-down is suggested for concrete surface that will be constantly surface-washed as part of the operation of the facility. An acetone joint side wall wash-down is suggested for best bonding after vacuuming. No Backer rod is used in control joints, only in construction joints to control depth. *Areas of high moisture vapor may be pre-treated with CMW (see data sheet) to reduce moisture vapor pressure in the joint area.
Cartridge Use: 3010 is packaged in 300 x 300 ml duplex cartridges. This cartridge uses a standard manual duplex caulking gun.
1:1 Ratio Machine Application: Use an Madison recommended 1:1 application machine or equal. Make sure the product is over 72°F before beginning the machine application. Warm the product in the containers as needed to pre-condition as required.
Cold Conditions: Pre-condition the product to the 80°F or above the day before it is to be used in Cold Storage applications, warehouses and freezers. Contact Madison or suggestions on machine/pump protection from the cold. Change static mixers about every 20 gallons or as needed if build-up occurs in the static mixer.
Concrete Cure & Shrinkage: Although standard engineering practices call for a minimum 28 day cure on concrete, a longer cure is advisable. Concrete will continue to shrink after the 28 day time frame. Less shrinkage begins to occur after 60 days and 90 days. Although a 60 day and 90 day cure waiting period may not be available to the applicator or owner, the longer the concrete cures the less shrinkage will occur. Filling joints at or before a 28 day cure can produce some evidence of concrete shrinkage that may be visible in the joint fill area. A shore hardness of Shore A 85 to 90 with an elongation of greater than 200% is the excepted standard.
Temperature & Dehydration: It is important to note that for the best allowable joint performance the temperature of the slab should be considered during the application. It is always important to have the building area, office, warehouse, industrial area or cold storage at its working temperature before filling the control joints. Filling the control joints in warm conditions then reducing the temperature via air condition will produce additional shrinkage to the slab and the joint area via additional dehydration by the air conditioner and the cool of the slab. This effect is dramatic for cold storage facilities. The 3010 is used in cold storage and is applied at the facility’s working temperature.
Limitations:
Do not use on wet surfaces or expose part A to moisture. Keep out of direct sunlight and store at room temperature on wood pallets. Protect from cold when using in the cold.
This product is for use by professional applicators only. Wear Protective Clothing and gloves as the product bonds very well to fabrics. Read MSDS before using this product. Static Mixer Tip:
Use ONLY the Madison recommended static mixer for this product. Failure to use proper mixers may result in improperly mixed product and/or poor curing.
Madison provides a copper tip for putting on the end of the static mixer. The copper helps filling the joint from the bottom up reducing entrapped air into the product.
Joint Over-pour: Make the application with a slight over-pour. Trim the over-pour from the joint area about 15 to 20 minutes after installation. Use a very sharp razor cutter to make the cut.
For Cold Condition Application Cutting:
There is no standard set time for the product in cold temperatures. Cold conditions/temperatures vary. Once the product is installed in the joint it must be monitored to determine the best time for surface shearing/cutting.
Cutting too soon will leave a poor surface finish as the product may be gummy, while cutting too late could produce a chattered appearance over the surface of the cut product. Monitor the in-place product and do several test cuts then cut when it is ready. For extreme cold conditions a heat gun can be used to warm product prior to cutting.
1. Substrate Assessment & Cure Verification
Ensure the concrete has cured for a minimum of 28 days. Note that a 60 to 90-day cure is preferred to minimize future visible shrinkage from the slab opening up.
2. Joint Preparation & Diamond Sawing
Run a dry diamond saw down the joint, abrading both side walls to a standard fill depth of approximately 1.25 inches. Do not use a backer rod in standard control joints (reserve them for construction joints only).
3. Decontamination & Chemical Wash (Immediate prior to fill)
Vacuum all dust out of the joint. For facilities subjected to constant surface washing, perform an acetone joint side-wall wash-down to remove oils, curing agents, or moisture. Allow it to fully evaporate.
4. Thermal Pre-Conditioning
Ensure the building has reached its final working temperature before filling. If operating in cold conditions or freezers, pre-condition both the product and equipment to 80°F–90°F the day before use.
5. Dispensing Setup (1:1 Ratio Alignment)
If using 300ml x 300ml cartridges, load into a manual duplex gun. If using a machine pump, ensure the product is over 72°F. Equip the static mixer with the required copper tip to eliminate entrapped air.
6. Filling & Over-Pouring (5–8 min Gel Time)
Insert the copper tip to the bottom of the joint and fill from the bottom up. Intentionally apply a slight over-pour above the concrete surface grade.
7. Surface Shearing & Razor Trimming (20–30 min post-fill)
For standard temperatures, trim the excess flush to the floor using a very sharp razor cutter 15 to 20 minutes after pouring. In cold applications, perform periodic test cuts—cutting too early leaves a gummy finish, while cutting too late causes a chattered look.

Preparation: Concrete must have a minimum 28 day cure prior to application. Use a dry diamond saw, saw/abrade both sides of the joint walls, vacuum dust. Remove any curing agent, moisture or any material that may effect bonding. Assure that the joint is properly abraded and cleaned to full depth, approximately 1.25 inches as a standard depth of fill. For best adhesion, wash the abraded joint walls down with acetone or a mix of water/alcohol applied from a tank sprayer, garden spray or similar unit. Allow wash-down to flash off before filling. No backer rod is used in full depth fills, use backer rod only in construction joints. Always mix the part B before using.
Application: Use an Madison recommended 1:1 application machine or equal. Pre-condition 3020; Make sure the product is over 72°F before beginning the machine application. Warm the product in the containers as needed to proper working temperature for this product. Use ONLY the Madison recommended static mixing units for this product. Failure to use proper mixers may result in improperly mixed product and/or poor curing. Use proper static mixers with a metal joint "tracker" on the end of the static mixer. Fill the joint from the bottom of the joint up. Make the application with a slight over-pour. Trim the over-pour from the joint area. Use stiff blades when shearing joints larger then ¼ inch.
Slab Temperature and Working Temperature: Joints should not be filled in direct sunlight or while the slab is hot. Hot slabs have closed control and expansion joints. The joints of a building slab should be filled when the building is enclosed. For best results the joints should be filled at the working temperature of the building. This is important in areas where the ambient temperature and humidity is high. During the reduction of temperature, due to the operation of air conditions, the slab will dehydrate and shrink along with the slab’s normal shrinkage during cure. This will open saw cut joints, construction joints and expansion joints. If the joints are filled when the joints are hot and the slab shrinks from air conditioning (working temperature) as well as continued curing then the joints will open and sometime rip the joint filler material.
Cold Storage Applications:
3020 is adjusted and accelerated for below zero applications, inform Madison when ordering this product for such applications.
Slab joints to be filled in areas where the temperature will be below zero should be filled at zero or working temperature. Joints filled at ambient temperatures, prior to the slab being brought down to the cold working temperature, will be damaged as the joints open.
Limitations: Do not use on wet surfaces or expose part A to moisture. Keep out of direct sunlight, store ten gallon kits on wood pallets at room temperature. Warm product kits on pallets before using. Protect from cold conditions when using this product in cold storage.
Shelf Life: 1 year, store between 40°F and 100°F.
Finish: Finished mat texture is obtained by shearing or trimming the over-pour to finished grade.
Packaging: 10 & 110 gallon kits and cartridge kits.
VOC Content: 0gms/1 or 0.0 lbs/gal

Polyurea Joint Application Using The Optimus 10000 Pump:
The 10000 pump is used on a cart because no electrical outlet is available. A generator is added to the cart for total mobility.
Ten gallon kits of Optimus 3020 are staged in convenient locations throughout the warehouse application area. As more product is needed it is just poured into the on-board pals. When the job is completed the pails are discarded.
In this application two men use the cart. In areas where the 10000 pump has access to electricity or with an added generator on the 10000 pump itself, the application only requires one person to make an installation.
The average application linear feet per hour ranges from 800 to 1000 l.f.h.
3020 polyurea is applied using a static mixer on the end of the application gun @ ½ inch x 30 elements. A copper tip is attached to the tip of the static mixer to keep the plastic static mixer from wearing out. The copper tip also fits down into the joint allowing the product to fill the joint from the bottom up. This produces less entrapped air in the pour of the product.
The overpour of product is sheared off in about an hour or so later.
Madison was one of the first companies to produce a true polyurea joint material beginning in the late 1980’s. The product is made without catalysts and is tougher then most urethanes while allowing for penetration into the joint fill area and providing load transfer for the warehouse traffic.
1. Cure Verification & Mechanical Abrasion
Verify a minimum 28-day concrete cure. Use a dry diamond saw to abrade both sides of the joint walls to a standard depth of 1.25 inches. Vacuum all residual dust out completely.
2. Edge Decontamination Wash
Wash the abraded joint walls using an alcohol/water mix or pure acetone applied via a tank/garden sprayer. Allow the solvent to completely flash off. Thoroughly mix Part B before transferring it to the machine.
3. Climate Stabilization
Ensure the building is completely enclosed and resting at its permanent operating temperature. Filling joints while a slab is hot or before air-conditioning units shrink/dehydrate the concrete will result in torn filler material later.
4. Pump & Material Pre-Conditioning
Verify the product temperature is above 72°F. Stage the 10-gallon kits at convenient intervals across the warehouse floor. Pour directly into the on-board pails of the cart-mounted Optimus 10000 pump system.
5. Application Execution
Equip the gun with a 1/2" x 30 element static mixer terminated with a metal joint "tracker" copper tip. Dispense the material from the bottom of the joint upward, leaving a slight over-pour. Replace static mixers every 20 gallons if build-up occurs.
6. Shearing to Grade (~60 min post-pour)
Allow the product to set. Approximately one hour later (or later in the day/following morning depending on slab temperature), shear the over-pour off to finished grade. Use stiff blades for joints wider than 1/4 inch to achieve a flush matte texture.
3040 Joint is a “Slow Set Siliconized Polyurea” designed for use in concrete Expansion Joints in parking structures, bridges, airfields, etc. The gel time is 3 to 5 minute and this product is very flexible with high elongation and a 1:1 mix ratio. This is a true polyurea/siliconized system with rapid movement ability and excellent memory. The 3040 expansion joint product is 100% solids and designed to be self-leveling for exterior moving joints. 3040 is machine dispensed using the Madison 10000 LS 1:1 application machine or similar machine and can also be dispensed for small applications using a duplex cartridge. A hand mix version of the 3040 Joint is available.
3040 is used for any exterior expansion joint as well as for rapid installations where short down-time is important, the temperature is very low limiting the use of other polymer products. The product can be driven over in 30 minutes after installation.
Cold Temperature Applications: 3040 may be used in cold temperature applications below zero °F . Set times change very in cool temperatures and flexibility is maintained. When using the 3040 in cold conditions keep the product and equipment warm before and during use. 3040 exhibits excellent resistance to moisture, chemicals and abrasive conditions.

Primer: Small exterior joints of less than ½” do not need a primer. Large joints with the substrate prepared via shot-blasting or sand blasting may not require a primer. For large moving joints a primer may be used. Use Madison primer 7010. Prime 1-2 hours before application of the 3040. For best bonding results apply the joint product as soon as possible over the primer when the solvent in the primer has flashed.
Application:
Use a 1:1 positive displacement (cylinder) application machine or Madison 10000 LS pump.
Pre-condition 3040 temperature making sure the product is >72°F before beginning the machine application. Warm the product in the containers as needed to proper working temperature for this product. Use ONLY the Madison recommended static mixing units for this product. When using Duplex Cartridges of the 3040 Joint, keep cartridges warm and follow all application instructions for cartridge use.
Bond Breaker: A bond breaker is often used at the bottom of an expansion joint to allow for greater movement of the product filling the joint. Use a bond breaker on deep joint fills as needed or backer rod.
Filling: Fill the joint from the bottom of the joint up. fill to slightly below grade. The product is self- leveling and quick to set, avoid overfilling. Always mix the part B before using.
Joint Size and Movements: Expansion joints should be designed with a maximum of +/- 25% movement. The overall movement of a joint should be measured at the temperatures extremes that are normal for the structure.
Application Finish: *For aesthetic appearance around buildings and structures and to stop environmental dust from sticking to the new 3040 surface “remove” the surface tack on standard expansion joints by using fine sand or tack removal powder as supplied by Madison. Dusting the surface while the product is fresh provides a fresh, clean finish and appearance.
Below Finished Grade: Keep the installation of the product slightly below the finished surface grade. Install the product when the joint area is cool and the joint is open.
Static Mixer Metal Tip: Use Madison provide metal tip tracker for the end of the static mixer.
Limitations:
Keep out of direct sunlight and store at room temperature on wood pallets. Protect from cold when using in the cold.
Warm or pre-condition product kits on pallets before using in cool conditions below 70F. 3040 Polyurea exhibits good chemical resistance to motor pool fluids, aviation fluids, i.e. hydraulic fluid, diesel fuel and JP4 and cleaning solutions for short periods of time. To maintain proper joint integrity clean up chemical spills soon. Submersion of product or continued water ponding over product - may result in a low skid resistance condition, hazardous working condition or slip hazard. Chemicals, oils, soaps etc. should be removed from the surface as a normal part of cleaning and maintenance. Part A is moisture sensitive, keep away from

An acetone joint side wall wash down is suggested for best bonding after vacuuming. No Backer rod is used in control joints, only in construction joints to control depth.
Measure the opening of the joint at the coldest temperature and at the highest temperature and multiply by 4. If a joint opens and closes 1/4 inch the joint width should be 1 inch and the fill depth should also be approximately ½” to 1 inch with the backer rod placed at this depth.
Depth:
Minimum depth is normally about half the open width of the joint to equal the depth over backer rod.
Areas of higher movement, standing water and deicing chemicals should have joint depth of ½ the width and up to 1 to 1.5 inches depth over a backer rod.
Structures such as bridges, airfields or parking structures that are exposed to wide thermal cycle swings and a high movement potential that may exert excessive compression and expansion (pulling) forces on the joint material should be filled when they are “cool” and open. The configuration of the backer rod should be round allowing for the added depth on the sides of the fill.
Minimum Depth Airfields:
Shallow fill applications have a greater potential for loss of adhesive bond and damage when snow removal equipment is used. Moving joints may be filled slightly greater than the half the width as determined by the project engineer. A primer may be required.
Compressed air units that may dispense moisture near the part A, avoid exposing the pail/container to humidity. Observe appearance of part A in humid conditions.
*Note: The 3040 is very adhesive and stays “tacky” on the surface allowing for top coating when used on deck joints. Top coat the surface of the 3040 not more than 1 hour after application in joints on surfaces that will have a finish coat

3040 polyurea is applied using a static mixer on the end of the application gun @ ½ inch x 30 elements.
1. Joint Assessment & Thermal Measurement
Measure the joint opening at both the seasonal cold extreme and heat extreme. Ensure the joint design does not exceed +/- 25% movement. Plan to execute the installation when the structural deck is cool and the joints are wide open.
2. Profile Preparation & Decontamination
For large expansion joints, prepare the concrete substrate via shot-blasting or sand-blasting. Clean and vacuum all walls. For small joints under 1/2 inch, standard dry diamond sawing and a side-wall acetone wash are sufficient.
3. Substrate Priming (1–2 Hour Window)
For large moving joints, apply Madison Primer 7010 to the side walls. Wait 1 to 2 hours for the primer solvents to fully flash off. Proceed to fill the joint as soon as possible after flash-off to maximize chemical bonding.
4. Thermal Pre-Conditioning & Mixing
Thoroughly mix Part B. Ensure both part containers are pre-conditioned above 72°F. If using duplex cartridges, keep them warm prior to gun loading. Keep compressed air lines completely dry to prevent moisture contamination of Part A.
5. Bond Breaker Installation
Place a round backer rod or specialized bond breaker tape at the bottom of the deep expansion joint. Set the depth to equal exactly half of the joint's open width (e.g., if the joint is 1 inch wide, set the backer rod depth to 1/2 inch to 1 inch max).
6. Precision Dispensing (3–5 min Gel Time)
Using a 1:1 positive displacement machine (like the Madison 10000 LS) equipped with a metal tip tracker, fill the joint from the bottom up. Stop the fill slightly below the finished surface grade to protect the joint from future snow-plow or traffic impact. Avoid overfilling.
7. Dressing & Tack Removal (Immediate Post-Pour)
While the polyurea is still fresh and wet, broadcast fine sand or Madison tack-removal powder over the surface. This removes surface tack, prevents environmental dust from sticking, and yields a clean aesthetic finish.
